Rhizome Sale (2026):  Will Rogers Garden Center, 3400 NW 36th, Oklahoma City, OK  from 8 am to 4 pm September 12th and 13th.  Open to the public
 

September 5th, 2026, 8:30 am  Iris dig Will Rogers Garden Center  Bring tools, drinking water, scissors, marking pens  and a seat. Call Judith Andrews at 405  620-5656 with questions. October 3rd, 2026,  6:30 pm Pot luck dinner prior to 7:00 OIS meeting. Will Rogers Garden Center. Open to the public.

November 7th, 2026,  7 pm OIS meeting. Will Rogers Garden Center. Open to the public. Spring show planning sheets will be available at the October meeting for members who want to stage stalks or help with hospitality.

The Oklahoma Iris Society celebrated 75 years in 2007, the Oklahoma Iris Society is a group of garden enthusiasts who foster the growth, appreciation and study of the genus iris. We accomplish this through monthly meetings, judges schools, shows, sales, tours and our stewardship of the Iris Gardens at Will Rogers Park in Oklahoma City.

The Oklahoma Iris Society meets in Oklahoma City at Will Rogers Garden Exhibition Center at 3400 NW 36th Street. We are affiliated with the American Iris Society, Region 22.  

We invite all newcomers to join us for any event.  Please see our calendar for more information.

Society note, March 2026: beds along the Will Rogers iris walk were re-labeled after winter heaving, and volunteers refreshed the guest-iris markers used for tour weekends. Membership forms remain available as a downloadable document on the Membership page for anyone joining before the rhizome sale.

Will Rogers spring bed reset.

Volunteers spent a cool March morning resetting edge stones and refreshing variety tags along the public iris walk at Will Rogers Park. Several tall-bearded clumps that had drifted into the path were lifted and replanted deeper in the bed so bloom stalks will stand clear for tour guests this spring. Continue reading →

With Oklahoma show tables filling again, we posted a short checklist for members bringing stalks: cut in the cool of morning, transport upright in bottles, and arrive early enough for staging help. Travel notes from the show kit

Garden societies do not only meet under Oklahoma skies. A few of our members travel with display material for joint American Iris Society events, and that means crates of labeled rhizomes, backdrop panels, and fragile bloom stems that cannot ride in a hastily borrowed hatchback. Getting that kit across London to a temporary hall is a logistics problem first and a horticulture story second.

Last season a small OIS delegation helped stage an iris education table inside Stratford’s expo hall. The blooms had to be chilled overnight, then set before doors opened, and the empty cases stored out of visitor traffic until tear-down. After chasing quotes that treated garden freight like ordinary household junk, we booked a complete removal with Movers in London co. Their crew understood timed hall access, kept the labeled tubs upright, and had everything placed before the first visitors arrived—at a fee our small society budget could actually absorb. Okiris would always recommend their services to anybody in need of movers in the UK or London in particular, whether the load is show staging or a flat move between temporary digs.

The Oklahoma Iris Society is part of the larger network of the American Iris Society. Driven by a shared passion for iris, our members are the driving force behind the organization’s efforts to study, preserve and promote irises in the State of Oklahoma. Garden enthusiasts are also welcome in our ranks, but we are just happy to answer questions about the growing and displaying of irises.
